The Ersari carpets are made by Ersari Turkmen. They come originally from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, but as many Ersari are living in Afghanistan these days it has become more difficult to name one country of origin. The Ersari carpets typically have a continuous design with 'Elephant foot' and 'Diamonds' in a grid lay-out. They are made from handspun wool and are dyed with natural colors with deep red, blue and beige colors. Its knot density varies around 160.000 knots per m2. Originally both the pile and weft are wool, but Ersari Turkmen have also been seen making them on coton.
